Handmade platters

June 16, 2014

Testing glazes today- commenced with a new design and technique for some handmade plates and platters – texture and design elements on surface decoration are my primary focus and glaze testing cone 04 matt glazes – Silk screen print transfers are a follow on of my road trip series from printmaking 2013. Landscapes and earth textural elements are an attempt on the surface – Cairns Atherton Tablelands contains a rich volcanic soil, indigenous and great colonial historical research I have been conducting of early migration of farmers settling into the region . I hope to convey layers of texture and colour synonymous of the area. I using BRT clay rich with sediments and terracotta with recent development of learning to add inclusions . This is yet an early development in testing and later earth and minerals of this region will be added to clay for further surface decoration .
